Man 'earns £50k' in three years from sneaky side-hustle – but can't tell his neighbours

A man revealed the shocking way he’s managed to make an additional £50,000 in three years - off the back of his neighbours.

Making extra money while the cost of living crisis rages on is an issue for many people up and down the country. It’s no secret people are struggling, with soaring food prices and sky-high bills, so any extra cash can make a dramatic difference to the overall quality of one’s life.

For one man, he saw an opportunity three years ago and seized it with both hands. There are around 12 unused car parking spaces in the complex where he lives and the fella has taken to renting them out to unsuspecting commuters.

He decided to confess his “sin” on the X, formerly Twitter, ‘Fesshole’ account, which sees people anonymously share their darkest secrets for the judgement of strangers.

He said: “I have rented out 12 of my neighbours' unused parking spaces to commuters for almost three years without their knowledge, only cost is £150 on key fobs.”

The stealthy neighbour added: “It's made me almost £50,000. No one has ever said a word.” Fellow X users rushed to the comments to share their thoughts. One said: “If they find out, you're going to jail."

Another commented: “Impressive stealth, good job dear.” A third shared: “A neighbour parked his unregistered and immovable car in my [car space]. The police said they could not act because it was on private land.”

Someone else asked: “So essentially, those commuters could just park there for free? Or maybe cut out the middleman and just pay your neighbours?”

Musing on the possibility of such antics, one X user said: “Very possible. If I didn’t have a car but I was allocated a parking space where I lived, I wouldn’t care if someone was parking there or probably even notice.”

And another said: “I swear I've paid for parking off someone like this before [crying laughing emoji]. There was a guy who wore a high-vis jacket and took payment off unsuspecting car parkers for years, it was just unused land.”

But others were unconvinced and accused the anonymous poster of “lying” or embellishing the story for social media clout.

In the UK, there are many rules where parking is concerned. The Highway Code lists the multiple regulations on where drivers are permitted to park, and also references the rise in Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE).

It states: "DPE is becoming increasingly common as more authorities take on this role. The local traffic authority assumes responsibility for enforcing many parking contraventions in place of the police.”
